Domaine Trilles Incantation Rouge 2017, Cotes de Roussillon AOP. 15%.

Very powerful wine. Ripe black fruit aromas. Full and intense. Spicy notes. Complex. Excellent length. 60% Syrah, 20% Grenache Noir, 15% Mourvedre, 5% Carignan. A good match for the richest and most full-flavoured dishes

This is what Joanna Simon had to say about this wine in House and Garden:

"A bewitchingly generous, rich red from the southern reaches of France, not far from the border with Spain and close to a spot where witches were said to brew their potions: hence the name Incantation (and my inability to resist the opening pun). Apart from being dark enough to be a witches' brew, there is no other comparison. Incantation, a Syrah-based blend with Grenache, Mourvèdre and a smidgen of Carignan, is brimful of violet, raspberry, black fruit and fresh black pepper flavours underpinned by meltingly soft tannins. It walks through powerful food, including offal, but it's also a winner with pork, flavoursome hams and caramelised roast vegetables. It's ready to drink, but you could put it away in a cellar for a few years and drink some of Joie de Vin's other French wines in the meantime: the Roussillon, Languedoc and Loire ranges are particularly strong."

This is what The Wine Gang had to say about the 2014:

"A powerful potion this is too, a rich, deep, glossy pool of black fruits and spices, slicked with chocolate, then sweet black plum and juicy blackcurrant on the palate with substantial weight, spicy-ripe tannins and good balance. Very tasty and should cellar for five years comfortably."

I bought the 2015 at a tasting in 2019; a seriously good wine that has aged incredibly well. A favourite blend of mine that has now developed even deeper dark fruit flavours, soft tannins and a very satisfying aftertaste. I need a larger glass!
