Domaine Salmon Chateau Thébaud Cru Communal Muscadet Sevre et Maine 2016 12.5%

In the Muscadet region they are in the process of creating a new tier of Cru Communal (or Village) wines. The idea is that these will become the Grand Cru of the region. This wine comes from the Commune of Chateau Thébaud. It has been matured on the lees (the solid particles left after fermentation) for 4 years. This gives the wine full intense lingering flavours of almond and citrus that balance its fresh acidity. Ideal with fish or white meat in rich sauces, a simple grilled fish, goats' cheese or simply savoured on its own. Already mature and drinking very well, this wine has the quality to last for another 10 years.

In June’s Decanter magazine Chris Kissack likened Muscadet Cru Communal wines to Grand Cru Chablis. Fellow taster Ben Llewelyn said "these are exciting, versatile wines with everything..…complexity, terroir characteristics and ageability"

Of this wine they said "Toasty, brioche flavours augmented by preserved lemon. Palate of delicacy and finesse...juicy, energetic fruit and a long fine pithy finish of real character"

Also recommended by Joanna Simon December 2016:
"From the new cru communale of Château-Thébaud, this is Muscadet that shows the advantage of long lees-ageing, combining an effortless preserved-lemon freshness with a nutty richness that will continue to develop"
