Exploring the Loire

Exploring the Loire

Posted by Jill on 26th Feb 2016

The beginning of February saw us crossing the channel to Angers in the Loire Valley to visit the Val de Loire show, a three-day event where producers from all over the region come to showcase their wines and make new contacts. It is a trade show where you often come across old colleagues.

Old friend Charles Sydney, an english "courtier" living in the Loire was kind enough to invite us to his annual dinner. Charles knows many of the best winemakers. he asked each of them to bring an example of the wine they are most proud of. I have never experienced a better tasting! The winemaker next to me showed us an unctuous 1985 Vouvray. I have never tasted a more impressive dessert wine. The Sancerre red from Mellot was fantastic.........

We then took the opportunity to visit some existing suppliers - but more of that in my next post Unfortunately the February weather was inclement, but it couldn’t disguise the beauty of this part of France.
